From 1 July 2026, flexi-jobs are allowed in almost all sectors. Sectors can refuse via an opt-out. Net pay remains favourable: you pay a 28% social security contribution instead of 33%. For pensioners, little changes; they can continue to earn unlimited extra income. Your maximum of 138 hours per quarter also remains the same.
<p>The biggest change is the expansion to sectors such as construction, industry and IT. Employers who do not want flexi-jobs must explicitly submit an opt-out. Until mid-2026, flexi-work remained limited to hospitality, care, agriculture and a few others. From 1 July 2026, it is allowed in all sectors, unless a sector applied for an opt-out. The minimum hourly wage remains the legal minimum, but the big advantage is the social security contribution of 28% instead of 33%. As a result, your net pay is usually around 72% of your gross pay. In 2025, that was often €12 net per hour. Due to indexation, it will probably rise to €12.50 or more in 2026. Note: there is a wage ceiling, so your employer cannot pay you unlimited amounts. Therefore, a flexi-job is not a gold mine, but a nice extra income.
That limit remains unchanged. So you cannot work unlimited hours, but 138 hours are easy to combine with another job or your pension. You choose when you work, in consultation with your employer.
Pensioners remain an important group: they pay no tax on their flexi-income and it does not affect their pension. With the expansion to more sectors, pensioners can now also work in a museum, a garden centre or an administrative side job. Quickly check the flexi-jobs for pensioners in your region.
