A flexi-job is a special status in Belgium that allows you to earn extra money tax-free if you already work at least 4/5 or are retired. The idea is simple: you get extra income without the taxman taking a cut. The system has existed since 2015 and has grown enormously since then, with more than 80,000 flexi-jobbers in Flanders. What conditions do I need to meet?

To be able to do a flexi-job, you must either work at least 4/5 for one or more other employers, or be fully legally retired. You cannot do a flexi-job with the same employer as your main job. It is also important that you do not earn more than €12,000 per year to enjoy the tax benefit. This ceiling has applied since 2024 and is adjusted annually to the index. How much do you earn with a flexi-job?

The wage for a flexi-job is the minimum baromaat wage of the sector in which you work, plus a net flexi allowance. This means you often earn between €12 and €15 per hour, fully net. In hospitality, that amount can be even higher thanks to tips. You also do not pay social contributions on your flexi wage, so what you get is really what ends up in your account. Note: if you earn more than the annual ceiling, you will still have to pay tax on the excess. So keep an eye on your income.
