In production, as a flexi-jobber you can work, for example, as a production worker, packer or machine operator. Since 1 July 2026, flexi-jobs have been possible in almost all sectors; whether a flexi-job is possible for a given job depends on the rules of the sector. If a job requires diplomas or qualifications, you must have them as a flexi-jobber.
Your flexi pay must be at least the sectoral minimum wage for the job. On top of your flexi pay you receive 7.67% flexi holiday pay. On your flexi pay you pay no employee social security contributions, and up to 18,440 euros (income year 2026) no tax either; above that amount, the excess is taxed. That ceiling does not apply to retirees.
In principle, you must have worked at least 4/5 for one or more other employers in the third quarter before the flexi-job, or be retired. You may not combine a regular job and a flexi-job with the same employer. Separate rules apply to related companies.

If you worked at least 4/5 for one or more other employers in the third quarter before the flexi-job, you can in principle supplement your income with a flexi-job. A student or jobseeker without that 4/5 does not meet the condition.
Your flexi employment contract can be full-time or part-time, for a fixed period or for a clearly defined task. When you work depends on the vacancy.
You can also do a flexi-job if you are retired. If you are retired but have reached neither the legal retirement age nor a career of 45 years, then from 2026 you can earn at most 8,121 euros a year with a flexi-job. Contact the Federal Pension Service beforehand to make sure your flexi-job does not affect the amount of your pension.
