What is a flexi-job again?

A flexi-job is an advantageous way to earn extra money in Flanders. You pay no taxes or social contributions on it, so you keep more net. Ideal for those who want to earn a little extra flexibly, whether in hospitality, care or cleaning. And the best part: you decide when you work. No fixed schedule, just pure freedom.

Conditions to work a flexi-job

For employees

Not everyone can simply start a flexi-job. The most important condition: you must work at least 4/5th for another employer. That means you already have a main job of about 80%. In addition, you must be 18 years or older and registered with Belgian social security. So check carefully whether you meet these requirements before diving into the flexi-job sectors.

For pensioners

You can also work a flexi-job if you are retired. The condition is that you receive an official retirement pension and have reached the age limit of 65. NOTE: the new 2026 rules bring some changes for pensioners, such as a possible link to the minimum career length. Therefore always consult the current information.

For employers

Employers who want to hire flexi-jobbers must be active in an allowed sector. Until recently it was mainly hospitality, but since 2024 many sectors have been added, such as care, cleaning and agriculture. In addition, the employer must conclude a framework agreement with each flexi-worker, containing the main agreements.

New flexi-job rules in 2026

From 2026, some things will change: the sectors where flexi-jobs are possible will expand further, and the conditions for pensioners will be tightened. For example, there may be a requirement of a minimum number of years worked. The maximum amounts will also be slightly adjusted. Pay of a flexi-jobber

The pay of a flexi-job is capped. The minimum wage is the sectoral scale for your position; in hospitality that comes down to at least €12.78 per hour including flexi holiday pay in 2026. Since 1 July 2026 there is also a maximum: your flexi pay may not exceed 150% of the sectoral basic minimum (for hospitality a separate maximum of €21 per hour applies, excluding flexi holiday pay). In addition, there is the fiscal annual ceiling: up to €18,440 per year (2026 amount) your flexi income remains completely untaxed; pensioners have no ceiling. These amounts are indexed annually. Flexi-job and benefits

Do you receive unemployment or other benefits? Be careful: a flexi-job can affect your right to benefits, because your income changes. Therefore always consult your benefit agency before you start. Those who already work 4/5th are usually safe, but for those who are partially unemployed, things are different.
