If you are 55 or older, a flexi-job can be a way to earn extra. For a flexi-job, you must in principle have worked at least 4/5 for one or more other employers in the third quarter before the flexi-job, or be retired.
On your flexi-wage you pay no employee contributions, and no tax up to 18,440 euros (income year 2026); anything above that is taxed. That ceiling does not apply to retirees. If you are retired and have reached neither the legal retirement age nor 45 years of career, from 2026 you can earn at most 8,121 euros a year with a flexi-job. If you have reached the legal retirement age or 45 years of career, your professional income is not limited. If you are retired, contact the Federal Pensions Service in advance, so you are sure that your flexi-job has no effect on the amount of your pension.
Since 1 July 2026, a flexi-job is possible in almost all sectors; whether it is possible for a given job depends on the rules of the sector. You cannot combine a regular job and a flexi-job with the same employer.
