You can do a flexijob if you work at least 4/5 of a full-time job elsewhere, not in the same sector as your flexijob, and you may not work for the same employer as your main job. There are also exceptions, for example for students and pensioners.
The most important condition is that you already work at least 4/5 as an employee or civil servant. You can also do a flexijob if you are retired. Students and job seekers are not eligible because they do not have a main job. You may never do the flexijob with the same employer as your main job and it must be in a different sector. This way you keep the advantageous tax and social security contributions.
Not everyone can simply start a flexijob. The rules are clear, but there are some nuances. We list them for you.
Note: if you work through temporary agency work, that employment also counts towards the 4/5 condition. But you may not do your flexijob with the same temp agency.
The main exclusions:
The government is steadily expanding the list of permitted sectors. Currently you can do a flexijob in:
Note: for some sectors additional conditions apply, such as a minimum age or specific training.
Your flexijob income is tax-free up to a certain ceiling. In 2026 you may earn a maximum of €12.50 per hour (this amount is indexed annually). Your gross hourly wage may not exceed that maximum, and your employer pays a special flexi contribution of 28% on your wage. For you, the net wage remains equal to the gross wage, because no social security or withholding tax is deducted. Read here how to keep more net from your flexijob.
Your flexijob income is not taxed in personal income tax, unless you exceed the annual limit. That limit is around €13,000 per year (exact amount for 2026 still to be determined). If you stay below that limit, you pay no extra taxes. For pensioners that limit does not apply. Discover all tax details of the flexijob.
You may never do a flexijob with the same employer where you have your main job. Not even in another branch of the same company. If you work in a supermarket chain as a cashier, you may not work as a flexi-jobber in another supermarket of the same chain. Employers check this in Dimona. Switching to a previous employer is allowed, as long as you are no longer employed there as a permanent employee and you respect the other conditions.
