Flexi-job in industry

A flexi-job in industry is the ideal way to earn extra money without giving up your main job. You work in a factory, production hall or warehouse as a production worker, order picker, packer or machine operator. In Flanders, since 2024 you can flexi-work in many industrial sectors, as long as you meet the conditions: you already have a main job of at least 4/5 and you are not unemployed. The best part? Your gross pay is immediately your net pay, so every euro you earn, you actually keep.

In which industrial sectors can you flexi-work?

The regulations allow flexi-work in almost all industrial sectors, but there are exceptions. You can flexi-work in the metal industry, the food sector, the textile and clothing sector, the construction sector (as a flexi-job in construction), the wood sector and in logistics warehouses of industrial companies. It is also possible in chemicals and pharma, but additional rules apply for certain high-risk functions involving dangerous substances. So always check whether your desired position is eligible.

Not every task in a factory is suitable as a flexi-job. Positions that require specific safety certificates or where a permanent contract is required are usually not filled through a flexi status. But for production work, packaging, quality control, cleaning and forklift driving, there is plenty of demand.

What do you earn with a flexi-job in industry?

Pay depends on the sector and the position, but on average hourly wages are between €15 and €18 gross, which is the same net. Because you don't pay social security contributions or withholding tax, you keep more net than with a regular side job. Some companies pay shift premiums for night or weekend work, which brings in extra. So a flexi-job as a production worker on the night shift can earn quite a bit.
